Our deepest sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Wayne Roberts. Wayne was a founding member of the Alberta Dahlia and Gladiolus Society and a master gardener. He was a friend and mentor to many, generously sharing his ideas, wealth of knowledge and his gardening expertise. Wayne’s scientific knowledge and his attention to detail were remarkable.
Wayne coordinated the inaugural and several subsequent annual flower shows with the ADGS; he was both a valuable exhibitor and judge. As a dahlia hybridizer over several years, Wayne developed the ‘Alberta Series’ including Alberta Magic, Alberta Sunset and Alberta Velvet.
Wayne was known to many for his dahlia growing, hybridizing, gardening, landscaping, and his passion for the Calgary Flames and Stampeders, and also his sense of humour. Conversations with Wayne often led to a good belly laugh – even throughout his days in hospice care.
Memories that will never leave us are Wayne’s love and devotion for his wife, Sheila; sons, Chad and Todd (Sinead); granddaughters, Keegan and Brynna; and that lifelong, one-in-a-million friendship he shared with his good buddy, Larry Quintilio.
We will always remember Wayne as a gentle soul, a man to laugh with, a friend to cry with, and a man who has left an indelible memory with those whose lives he touched. He will be dearly missed by all of us.
